This past Saturday, February 7th, was a big milestone for Gravity DMG. I officially launched on Product Hunt, and after a fast-paced 24 hours, we finished the day at #14.
For an indie project built to solve a specific "last mile" technical hurdle, seeing it on the front page alongside major AI players was a great experience.
Why I Built This
My background is in front-end development, marketing, and product strategy (currently at Yoast), so I’ve always been obsessed with the "user experience of shipping".
Coming from Yoast, I’m used to thinking about technical metadata and schema, so I wanted Gravity DMG to handle those distribution 'standards' with that same level of precision.
While building my first native Mac apps, I hit a wall. The code was ready, but the process of signing, notarizing, and packaging the app for users felt like a step back into the stone age of terminal commands. I realized that if I was frustrated by this, other developers likely were too.
The Launch Day
Going live at 9:00 AM GMT+1 was a mix of nerves and excitement. The goal wasn't necessarily to "win" the day, but to see if this solution resonated with the community.
- The Result: We secured the #14 spot of the day and reached the front page.
- The Audience: Gravity DMG now has 46 followers on Product Hunt—a solid group of people who care about better Mac distribution.
- The Shift: This launch also marked our official move to v1.0.0, introducing the "Ship in Style" update and our permanent $14.99 Lifetime License model.
Building in the Agentic Era
I want to be honest about the process. I didn't build this in a vacuum. I used Gemini 3 Deep Think and Claude Code as technical partners to refine the native SwiftUI implementation and the notarization pipeline.
Using AI allowed me to focus on the product architecture and design systems while the agents helped bridge the gap in complex terminal automation. It’s a workflow I truly believe is the future for "product-first" developers.
What’s Next?
Now that the launch hype is over, it’s time to get back to the work. I’m focusing on refining the "Gravity suite," ensuring both Gravity DMG and Gravity Clicker remain fast, native, and helpful for the macOS community.
